My First Meeting with Mr B

Created by Mick one year ago
I first met Carl in June 2010, in a bar (I know, of all places) in Kabul, Afghanistan. I had just arrived to work with Aviation and Carl was stood in one corner, the only person in there at the time, minding his own business. I wandered over, as I knew he was Aviation, said hello and very quickly we found or common ground, that of Grimsby and Cleethorpes where we had both grown up. Needless to say, a few shandies in, we became friends and thereafter, I would take great delight in bombarding him daily with a seemingly never ending tirade of Tim Vine one liner jokes, pun after pun, he would roll his eyes and groan (but I am sure he was secretly smiling inside)!

This went on until I moved up to a new role, when he then never failed to tear into me on a daily basis for being “Corporate HR”, yet still the puns flowed …… as did the groans.

I left Supreme eventually, but we still met up with Carl for brunches in Dubai and leaving do’s and the like.

For Carl, a dryer sense of humour, there was not.

A ready wit that lay in wait for you….ready to rip into you if you said anything that opened the door to a good slagging, for that, Carl was your man.

Rest in peace mon ami and always remember,

“Black Beauty, he really is a dark horse”
